SERVPRO acts fast to dry out your home and save your hardwood floors from further damage

SERVPRO is Here to Help with Your Flood Damage Restoration Needs

Flood damage can be a tricky situation to handle. When a storm breaks a window in your home, it can allow excessive rainwater inside and all over your newly installed hardwood floor. In this situation, removing the water as soon as possible is essential. The longer the wood flooring in your home is exposed to water, the more damage can occur. It is necessary to call a professional, so they may remove the moisture and thoroughly dry your home. Fortunately, help is not far.

Our IICRC-certified technicians can arrive at your Calabasas home to remediate the flood waters as soon as possible. We understand how time-sensitive flood damage can be and strive to always come to the job swiftly. We can immediately begin by removing the flooded water from your home using portable pumps and wet/dry vacuums.

Once we clean up, SERVPRO can investigate the moisture levels of your wooden flooring with non-penetrative moisture meters. When we have an accurate reading, we can select the correct drying process for your unique situation.

The shape of wood can become altered when exposed to water for too long. SERVPRO can remove any soaked carpets on top of your hardwood floors, as the moisture they contain can be particularly damaging and lead to warping. After preparing to dry the area, our technicians can bring a variety of tools to assist in creating a moisture-free environment, like dehumidifiers and air movers.

Our SERVPRO technicians can install our tools to ensure that the entirety of your hardwood floor becomes dry. Air movers can also be placed in crawl spaces to help dry the flood damaged  flooring from the underside. It is essential to hit the floor from as many angles as possible to encourage thorough drying.

When your home sustains flood damage, do not wait. Call SERVPRO of Agoura / Calabasas / Hidden Hills at (818) 991-6292. Day or night, we can take your call and send our technicians as soon as possible.

Who Should You Call When Your Agoura Hills Home Has Flood Damage?

Flooding Can Create Such Havoc to a Foundation--Even in Agoura Hills

SERVPRO Assesses and Mitigates Flooding to Foundations and Basements

The foundation of your Agoura Hills home is essential. It is the solid base for the entire structure you live in and is also the line of defense between outside elements like floodwaters or severe weather and the inside. While it is customary for many people to visually inspect the blockwork they find in their basement, inadequate construction techniques from when the home got initially built could eventually give impending water entry into the basement.

Once the water has a way in, it does not take long (in the right conditions) for flood damage to occur in your Agoura Hills residence. Your basement area is either finished or a storage area for your belongings, so this could create a dire situation for you and your family. If this occurs, you should consider the professional restoration services of our SERVPRO technicians.

Many people were not around when their homes were getting built, so they had no idea about the existence or proper pouring of a footer beneath the foundation block. Inadequate concrete or a pour that did not get reinforced is likely to shift with the freeze and then thaw the ground from season to season. This slight movement causes the rigid block walls to flex and break along their mortar joints, allowing water a point of penetration. Stair-steps on the exterior often indicate this access path for water.

Once the water has made its way inside, our SERVPRO professionals locate the entry point and close it off. The process prevents the problem from getting worse as restoration efforts get underway. Extracting the water with pumps and thoroughly drying the area is critical, as standing water provides a conducive condition for mold to grow on surfaces. Our team works quickly to prevent the damage from worsening and returning this compromised area to you the way that it used to be.

Flooding is never something that people want to have to deal with, but it is a natural disaster that affects the residents of Agoura Hills from time to time. You can call SERVPRO of Agoura / Calabasas / Hidden Hills to help you with the mess. You can reach us anytime at (818) 991-6292.

Water Extraction Services in a Flood Damage Situation in Agoura

SERVPRO Swiftly Extracts Storm Water from Agoura Properties

Floodwaters Pose Difficult Removal and Restoration Processes

Time is of the essence when a storm hits Agoura. Within a matter of hours, the floodwaters could overwhelm your home and compromise its structural integrity. Snakes, frogs, and other animals could swim into the house. Wet electrical boxes and felled power lines become a safety hazard. Even your car may become submerged in water and fail to start. The overall experience can be devastating.

The best way to protect yourself and your family is by escaping to the roof if the floodwaters are so high and then calling a restoration company when the floodwaters recede. SERVPRO has many years of experience dealing with water and flood damage in Agoura. During that time, we have helped numerous homeowners recover from a wide range of gray and black water flood damage. Thanks to a combination of experience, advanced cleaning and drying equipment, and dedication to client satisfaction, our IICRC-qualified technicians have returned damaged properties to a pre-damaged condition in no time.

Our flood damage recovery process always begins with water extraction from the property. The volume of water determines the extent of the water extraction process - the larger the flood, the more complicated the removal becomes. Typically, gray and black water may require decontamination efforts once done with the extraction part.

SERVPRO water extraction technicians have two main objectives when undertaking flood damage remediation. First, we have to protect the structure from excessive absorption of the floodwater. Secondly, we need to reduce the risk of secondary damage while controlling evaporation (which can lead to mold growth and mold damage).

Add to this the fact that rapid extraction of water can significantly decrease the amount of "strip-out" needed after a flood; using SERVPRO professional extraction services can significantly reduce repair costs that generally come with such an event. Once the work is done, we carry out thermal monitoring, environmental data logging processes, and hygiene testing to minimize the possibility of degradation. Indeed, it would be naive to assume that just because things look clean or dry, that is the case.

Time passes slowly when a flood hits your home. For fast, efficient, and reliable flood damage restoration services, you can count on SERVPRO of Agoura / Calabasas / Hidden Hills. We are locally based and have many years of experience providing flood damage and water damage restoration services to the area and its environs. Call us anytime at (818) 991-6292.

Our team can respond quickly to emergencies with the full measure of our restoration equipment and trained personnel to offer effective mitigation solutions immediately to your house to protect and preserve the items that matter the most to you.

Flood damage in your Agoura residence is a situation that perpetually gets worse the longer it gets left untouched. From the moment that materials and belongings become exposed to the spreading water, they begin to saturate into these items and often cause irreparable damage. Drywall and carpeting, for example, have to get entirely removed where they have gotten exposed to a high volume of water and later replaced in the reconstruction process.

Water Damage Restoration

From the moment that our SERVPRO technicians arrive at your property, we work quickly to establish the parameters of the damage and determine what must occur to preserve the property and your belongings as effectively as possible. Our mitigation techniques work to remove at-risk contents from your property as part of our pack-out process. These items often get taken to a nearby facility of ours for individual cleaning, disinfection, and drying.

Extraction is also a key component of our initial mitigation efforts. Our SERVPRO Green Fleet arrives as part of the rapid response team dispatched to the address when we get your emergency call, and some of these vehicles get stocked with gas-powered pumps and even pumps mounted directly to the trucks to remove the excess pooling water in the property as promptly as possible. This fast extraction can open the door to getting drying efforts started where they are necessary without delay.

Flooding is a traumatic experience because your home is in a vulnerable position along with all of the contents and belongings inside. It would help if you had a crew of professionals that could respond immediately to the situation with the resources, equipment, and expertise to help. Our SERVPRO of Agoura / Calabasas / Hidden Hills rapid response team is available 24/7 at (818) 991-6292.

  • Initial contact/call for emergency services
  • Assessment/inspection of all water damage
  • Water extraction and removal
  • Drying in unison with dehumidification
  • Cleaning, sanitizing, and deodorizing

We have advanced extraction equipment and drying mats that help us to accelerate the process. When used in conjunction with dehumidification tools, we can restore the relative humidity within your home.

Disaster recovery and flood cleanup are stressful and challenging to navigate if you do not know where to begin. Is My Agoura Home Safe to Reoccupy After a Storm Floods?

10/18/2021 (Permalink)

Floodwaters contain contaminants. Don't go it alone. SERVPRO is trained to safely restore your home.

Why is Cleaning My Home After a Flood So Important?

When the flooding is stormwater, flood damage in Agoura has the additional problem of contaminants (soil, insecticides, etc.) that got into the water before it entered your home. SERVPRO Response Teams train extensively to remove them from your home.

What Do Response Teams Use To Clean My Home?

They use an extensive inventory of cleaning agents that not only remove dirt and grime but also kill most harmful bacteria and other contaminants that can make residents and pets sick, as well as ruin property. Most of our cleaners that we used in flood damaged Agoura homes fall into three categories:

  • Antimicrobials are used against contaminants to prevent their development or to limit or stop bacterial and fungal growth (fungistats, for example). Included also are disinfectants, germicides, sporicides, and virucides.
  • Disinfectants are antimicrobials that destroy about 99 percent of organisms on contact, but they may not affect many types of bacteria or fungi. Examples include alcohol, chlorines, and formaldehyde.
  • Sanitizers decrease microbial numbers to acceptable levels. Sanitizers are short-lived, though, and microbes could grow back again under the right conditions.

How Do I Know SERVPRO Safely Uses These Chemicals?

SERVPRO Response Teams train to meet all EPA requirements for safe application of all cleaning agents. That means we rigidly follow guidelines and labeling:

  • Stay in full accordance with the product labeling in terms of application, dilution ratios, and storage.
  • Use methods that allow for full physical contact of the cleaning agents with all contaminated materials and surfaces.
  • Allow sufficient dwell time for the solution to be effective. Maintain the most effective temperature and pH levels for each cleaning agent.
  • Fully apply cleaners to the subfloor, tack strips, bottom plates, and walls to discourage microbial growth and the accompanying development of odors.

Can Flood Damage in Agoura Properties Escalate After Remedial Processes Start?

10/4/2021 (Permalink)

Visible water is easy to remove, but moisture also travels into drywall, cabinets, and other hidden areas.

SERVPRO Helps Contain Moisture Transfer to Prevent Unnecessary Secondary Damage

When a flooding incident affects your Agoura property, you are probably worried about the level that rising groundwater might reach. However, there are other equally damaging aspects of the loss that might damage your home.

Moisture transfer is one of the aspects of flood damage in your Agoura home that you may not anticipate initially. Moisture transfer can affect items on the ground level or even some of the higher floors if your home is storied. SERVPRO has a greater understanding of moisture behavior in properties and takes the correct intervention actions.

Moisture transfer occurs in many ways once property floods, including:

  • Wicking through materials
  • Condensation of evaporated moisture
  • Absorption of humidity by hygroscopic materials

Since moisture transfer happens gradually and is invisible, you are only likely to notice the problems after they develop. Taking preemptive steps is the only way to address the issue. Our SERVPRO technicians can ensure the action taken is sufficient since we evaluate before taking any action.

 Helpful evaluation processes include:

  • Checking humidity levels in all rooms using thermos-hygrometers
  • Checking the height of water absorbed by the walls
  • Checking for hidden moisture in cabinets, walls cavities, or other concealed areas

The checks may seem straightforward. However, without the right equipment, it is almost impossible to perform them. For instance, checking the water absorbed by walls requires evaluation on the surfaces and below. Our SERVPRO technicians are equipped with penetrative moisture meters to perform such evaluation. We also have thermal cameras that locate moisture using temperature differences, thus making it easier to find moisture in hidden areas.

Intervening to stop moisture transfer can be achieved in different ways. Our SERVPRO technicians can set up dehumidifiers around your home to keep relative humidity levels constant. Another alternative is making flood cuts on walls to stop migration through wicking.

SERVPRO of Agoura / Calabasas / Hidden Hills takes care of all aspects of flood damage, including the unexpected issues that might crop up. Call us at (818) 991-6292.

Flood Damage Tips For Your Agoura Home

6/11/2021 (Permalink)

Flooding can destroy both the contents and structure of your home. Contact SERVPRO for the certified technicians and equipment to tackle flood damage.

Agoura Flood Damage Tips

Flooding is an uncommon but often unavoidable tragedy among home and business owners around the nation and has plagued humanity since the dawn of civilization. Particularly in low-lying or close-to-water areas, flood damage in Agoura can be one of the leading causes of structural damage in homes and businesses. Often, the damages incurred are even more significant than the more well-known challenges associated with fire and storm damage. To better safeguard yourself against flood damage, here are a few tips to help save yourself in the future.

Buy Flood Insurance

Most homeowners do not know this, but most homeowners' insurance policies do NOT cover flood damage. Separate policies are often required for this type of damage. By arming yourself with an Agoura flood damage policy, you can ensure the safety of your financial future against the elements. Even if you do not live in an at-risk area, you should still purchase the insurance, primarily because premiums are often significantly lower than in high-risk areas. Whether your home is in a swamp, near a river, or on high ground, a custom flood insurance policy should never be overlooked.

Keep Valuables Overhead

If you have any very high-dollar items or items of significant sentimental value, precaution should be taken to keep them in high places. Agoura floods typically don't rise higher than a foot or two, even in the worst cases, and your goods should be safe at elevations higher than this. You want to lose as little as possible in the event of a flood, so spending a day rearranging your belongings with this in mind may be a good idea.

Don't Be Afraid to Seek Help

It can be pretty overwhelming to look at the damages caused by a flood. However, it is essential to keep in mind that professional and contracted services exist solely to assist in the cleanup and restoration of flood damages and help you get back on your feet with the experience and training of IICRC-certified professionals.

If you've incurred flood damage on a large or small scale, please don't hesitate to contact SERVPRO of Agoura / Calabasas / Hidden Hills at (818) 991-6292 for 24/7 services and quotes.

SERVPRO Mitigates Flood Damage in Agoura Homes 24/7

Agoura, California, is a historic southern Los Angeles County area established in 1927 to build a post office in the area. The name “Agoura” was chosen based on a local self-styled swashbuckler, French Basque immigrant Pierre Agoure. The locale was once known colloquially as “Picture City” because of the number of films shot at the Paramount Ranch.

Films shot in Agoura (including Agoura Hills) include such classics as:

  • Gone With the Wind
  • The Karate Kid
  • The Great Dictator
  • Starship Troopers
  • Poltergeist

Television shows such as Westworld and Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman were also shot in Agoura.

Flooding in the Agoura Area and L.A. County at Large

While much of southern California stays dry, the Agoura area is still subject to floods from storms and other phenomena.

In January 2017, one home in Agoura Hills was perpetually flooded by an underground spring beneath the property. The continuous water flow seeped into the floors, even after containment and mitigation attempts, until a local geologist discovered that the home was built on a creek bed and drainage area. An estimated 100 gallons of water per minute were permeating the home. Several 20-foot wells were constructed to keep the water from doing further damage.

In November 2018, Agoura properties were accosted by heavy rainfall, with rates going up to as much as half an inch to one inch per hour in some areas. Several towns and cities in Los Angeles County were affected, including Agoura Hills and nearby Calabasas.

January 2019 brought more storms in from the Pacific, which resulted in both rain and snow. These conditions made travel much more challenging and created a multitude of safety concerns, including:

  • Flooded streets
  • Mudslides
  • Damage from debris

These concerns were exacerbated by how the Woolsey fire decimated much land in Los Angeles County at the time. According to the Public Policy Institute of California, dry climes and wildfire-affected areas are particularly prone to flash flooding. That is because sand, dry soil, and burnt debris do not soak up water as readily as healthy soil.

How Does SERVPRO Sanitize Surfaces Affected by Flood Damage?

SERVPRO addresses Agoura home flood damage with an array of EPA-registered sanitation solutions implemented in tandem with Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) guidelines for the restoration industry.

SERVPRO techs preserve properties with the following cleanup protocols:

  • Sprayers, whether manual pump- or trigger-operated, quickly sanitize flood-damaged walls with biocides emitted at 50 psi
  • Mold, sewage, pests, and other contaminants are removed from the property by professionals in personal protection equipment (PPE)
  • OSHA-approved antimicrobials preserve damaged nonporous items, including appliances, while mitigating odors
  • Odor control solutions, such as ultra low-volume (ULV) foggers and hydroxyl generators, eliminate odor-causing particles from salvageable porous items

When Flooding Impacts Homes in Calabasas We are There to Cleanup & Restore Your Home

There are different opinions on how the city of Calabasas got its name. One version believes the name comes from calbaza, which is Spanish for pumpkin or squash. Another theory says it originates from the Chumash word calahoosa, meaning “where the wild geese fly.” While either is possible, the first seems more likely as wild squash plants grow all over the area. It appeared in 1824 that a Basque rancher spilled a wagonload of pumpkins. When spring came along, the seeds sprouted, and hundreds of pumpkins grew. That area is known as Las Calabasas.

Pumpkin Festival Fun

In honor of its humble heritage from the pumpkin, Calabasas hosts a Pumpkin Festival each year in October. It started as a small-town event near where the wagon overturned but has grown into a much bigger event. It now takes place at Juan Bautista de Anza Park and features live entertainment, exhibits, and carnival rides.

Native Americans & Spanish Explorers

The first known inhabitants were the Chumash Indians. Europeans would come in the form of Spanish Explorers looking to claim land for Spain. Gaspar de Portola headed an expedition that crossed through the area in 1770. They were returning to Mexico after exploring Northern California. Juan Bautista de Anza and the explorers with him would camp there in 1776. In 1875 a rancheria was named Calabasas. Leonis Adobe was a building in Old Town Calabasas and is one of the oldest buildings in the Los Angeles area. It dates from 1844.

Today’s Businesses and Economy

The city is the headquarters for several important businesses, including Harbor Freight Tools. The top ten employers in Calabasas include:

  • The Cheesecake Factory
  • Harbor Freight Tools
  • Las Virgenes United School District
  • Viewpoint School
  • Keysight Technologies
  • All Motorists Ins Agency
  • Alcatel Internetworking, Inc
  • Bob Smith BMW & Mini
  • Xperi
  • Valley Crest Landscaping Co.

Enjoy the Local Annual Events

The folks of Calabasas do enjoy celebrating. There are several fun events the entire family can enjoy throughout the year. You will not want to miss the following:

  • Eggstravaganza
  • The Pumpkin Festival
  • The Fourth of July Spectacular
  • The Fine Arts Festival
  • The Calabasas Film Festival

Calabasas Film Festival

This annual event screens around 40 films during the Calabasas Film Festival. The movies can be seen at:

  • The Edwards Grand Palace
  • The Commons of Calabasas
  • Viewpoint School

This week-long event happens in September, with screenings and filmmaker workshops taking place. It began in 2014 and was the debut site of The Equalizer, which starred Denzel Washington. It is a non-profit festival promoting student works and the film industry. Several major movies have been featured over the years, including:

  • All Things Must Pass
  • Marauders
  • Manchild: The Schea Cotton Story
  • The Birth of a Nation

Claretville of Calabasas & the Claretians

If you are visiting, there are some interesting places to visit. In the early 1900s, the Claretians came to Southern California from Mexico. They are an order of the Catholic Church known as the Missionary Sons of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in Rome. Their goal was to do inner-city mission work in Los Angeles.

The former Gillette Estate was their home and where they operated the Theological Seminary of Claretville. They also ran the Immaculate Heart Claretian Novitiate. The estate was renamed Claretville by the order.

King Gillette Ranch

The property would go on to be sold in 1978 to Clare Prophet, another religious organization. Claretville, or Gillette Estate, is now known as the King Gillette Ranch. The historic structures and the land can be enjoyed today as part of Malibu Creek State Park.

The King Gillette Ranch and its stunning view is a must-see when visiting the area. It is an unspoiled 588 acres of historical, cultural, and archaeological resources. There is a Chumash settlement on the land. King C. Gillette, a razor magnate, owned the land and had several structures built by Wallace Neff. Neff was a well-known architect during the Gold Age of California.

Magnificent Landscapes & Structures

Some of the Gillette Estate’s original formal landscaping is included in the park’s features. They are simply magnificent. Visitors to the par can enjoy:

  • A grand entry
  • Serene pond
  • Bridges
  • Spanish Colonial Revival Style Mansion
  • Formal courtyard and terrace

The Anthony C. Beilenson Visitor Center has all the information needed to explore the park and the estate. Many activities can be enjoyed, such as picnicking, walking, biking, and photography. It is an excellent place to camp and enjoy the outdoors all year long. The diverse wildlife that inhabits the park is fascinating as well.

Where Can I Find Flood Damage Mitigation After a Bad Storm in Agoura?

7/12/2020 (Permalink)

If your home is in need of flood damage mitigation, don't wait.

SERVPRO of Agoura is Here For Your Flood Damage Mitigation Needs!

While it is rare for hurricanes or typhoons to crash into California, that does not mean the city of Agoura is safe from a sudden intense storm. Whenever you live adjacent to a water body, it is wise to consider that your home could experience flood damage at some point. Whether it is a river, ocean, or lake, a sudden storm could cause water levels to rise and flood the nearby area. If you live at a lower altitude, water may even rush downhill toward your home, as it follows the direction of gravity.

Flood damage may never hit your Agoura home, but it doesn't hurt to be ready, just in case. There are a few ways you can prepare your home for a flood, especially if you know a severe storm is about to roll into your city. If a flood does impact your home, always remember to call a flood damage restoration company, like SERVPRO, immediately.

What Can I Do to Help Prepare For a Storm?

If you know a severe storm is imminent, you can do a few things to help your home weather it. You can:
    •    Board up any vulnerable windows, especially ones with damage
    •    Ensure the outside doors to your home are not compromised in any way
    •    Work with SERVPRO to create an Emergency READY Profile Plan for your home

Preparation can be the key to avoiding unnecessary damages in your home. However, there are times no amount of foresight can help you. Water tends to carve its own path, and sometimes it can be right through your home.

What Should I Do If Flood Water Gets Inside My Home?

If a storm hits your home and brings floodwater inside, you should consider doing the following:
    •    Immediately calling for emergency services, the faster, the better
    •    Avoiding contact with the water, as floods can carry harmful substances
    •    Use an exit strategy to leave safely

Remember, when it comes to floods, it's always essential to safely get yourself and your family out of your home.

What If the Flood Damage Is Minimal? What Should I Do?

Even a small amount of water in your home can still cause water damage. No matter the size of the damage in your home, you should:
    •    Call SERVPRO for help; We’re Faster to Any Size Disaster
    •    Lay down some towels to help absorb water in the meantime
    •    Keep your distance from the water, as even a small volume of floodwater can be black water (contaminated)

If your home needs help, never wait to get it. For the longevity of your possessions and your property, it is the best thing you can do for your house.

What Is the Difference Between Black Water and Normal Water?

Black or greywater are terms used to describe flood water with potential contaminants in them, and they are often not safe for human contact. Blackwater may contain:
    •    Biohazards, such as used medical equipment
    •    Sewage or other biowastes
    •    Petroleum gas and chemicals

When it comes to flood damage inside of your home, it is often best to avoid direct contact with it until professionals have identified its status.

What Can SERVPRO Do to Remove the Excess Water in My Home?

Our technicians can bring advanced equipment into your home to remove the standing water inside. Devices we use include:
    •    Portable truck-mounted pumps
    •    Wet/dry vacuums
    •    Extractors
    •    Flood drying mats
    •    Heaters

Drying your home may require our technicians to use many devices in conjunction with each other. For example, when dehumidifiers, air movers, heaters, and flood drying mats are used together, they create an optimal environment for evaporation. These devices are typically used once standing water has been removed, to ensure further excess moisture cannot get out of hand.

Furthermore, to help reduce the risks of mold damage, our technicians may decide to make flood cuts in your home. Removing only the damaged sections, instead of entire drywall sheets, helps us keep your remediation costs low. Additionally, partial deconstruction helps unnecessary garbage stay out of landfills.

What Do Your Technicians Do With Ruined Materials?

If our technicians have to make flood cuts, remove insulation, or cut out flooring, we do not leave the mess behind for you to clean up. We can:
    •    Bag up garbage around your home, including the materials
    •    Leave materials by the roadside for city garbage removal
    •    Clean your home thoroughly afterward, so you feel, “Like it never even happened.”

Here at SERVPRO, we're dedicating to making the remediation process easy for you.

If your home is in need of flood damage mitigation, don't wait. Get in touch with SERVPRO of Agoura / Calabasas / Hidden Hills by dialing (818) 991-6292. Our technicians are always ready to help you restore your home.

Flood Damage During Rainy Season In Agoura

4/27/2020 (Permalink)

“Like it never even happened.”

Agoura Homes Especially Susceptible to Flood Damage During Rainy Season

Every year, between mid-October and late April, the Agoura area experiences its rainy season.  During this time, heavy rains and runoff from the surrounding foothills and mountains often cause flash flooding.

The risk of flood damage in Agoura usually skyrockets during this period. Unexpected torrential rains can rapidly cause high-water issues. Normally loose dry earth can suddenly become a fast-moving mud slurry rolling downhill into low-lying areas. As this muddy water travels, it often picks up various contaminants like wastewater, fertilizers, and everyday trash. There is little-to-nothing you can do to avoid it if your home is in the path of this charging wall of dirty water.

However, following such an unfortunate occurrence, there are ways to save your house and mitigate damages. Services like SERVPRO have extensive experience in helping Agoura homeowners do just that. Last year, after heavy rains and a mudslide, a local homeowner was faced with feet of contaminated standing water in her house. SERVPRO technicians used submersible pumps and a truck-mounted extractor to remove the water from her residence.

Once our workers had extracted the standing water, they entered the house. They first sprayed EPA-approved disinfectants on affected areas to reduce health risks and limit microbial growth. Employees cleared away the remaining mud and debris with shovels and rakes. SERVPRO properly discarded drywall, carpets, and padding covered by the contaminated floodwaters. Technicians pressure washed and disinfected structural components with antimicrobial sprays.

Next, workers dried the interior of the Agoura house and its exterior walls. They drilled holes in affected interior walls and used an Injectidry system connected to a dehumidifier to dry them out. Our professionals strategically placed air movers to facilitate evaporative drying. They drilled holes at the top and base of exterior walls to aid in their drying. Workers employed moisture meters and sensors to determine when the process was complete. Afterward, technicians utilized foggers to further disinfect and deodorize the residence.

Nature is often unpredictable and can seem quite heartless. Its actions can affect us and our property without notice, at any moment. If you're ever unfortunate enough to experience its wrath, we can help.  Contact SERVPRO of Agoura / Calabasas / Hidden Hills at (818) 991-6292 for assistance.

Storm and Flooding Events in Agoura Properties Get Help from SERVPRO for Cleanup and Restoration

Agoura Homeowners Know to Call SERVPRO to Cleanup and Remove Floodwaters from Their Homes

How Professionals Can Help You Handle Flood Damage in Your Agoura Residence

According to the Public Policy Institute of California, many areas in California are vulnerable to flooding. People who live in properties that are susceptible to flood damage should prepare for such a calamity in a good time. It is vital to have the emergency number of a reliable flood restoration company.

Flooding can affect your home and its contents severely. After experiencing storm damage in your Agoura home, it is advisable to contact SERVPRO franchise professionals. Post flooding activities are a priority because the longer water and debris remain in a house, the more damage it can sustain. This includes corrosion of metallic items, wood rot, and mold infestation.

When dealing with contaminated water damages, our team usually eliminates safety hazards for the property. We also wear suitable personal protective equipment (PPE) like rubber gloves, full-body suits, boots, and eye protection. We also spray EPA-approved disinfectants on the affected areas. Our team can use suitable extractors to remove water from the floors.

Our post-flooding cleaning services also include drying the affected building materials and contents, disinfecting the property, and deodorizing it. We have the necessary equipment and expertise to eliminate dampness and disease-causing organisms.

Flooding may ruin walls severely. If wallboards are saturated with water, removing them is essential. Our team can cut away all affected wallboards slightly above the waterline. Our SERVPRO team also monitors all water damage jobs daily. We create written monitoring reports which include moisture content readings of the contents and structure, and specific humidity readings to document that the environment is drying.

This recommendation is expensive to have done and is viable only in the area of persistent flooding. This may also lower your flood insurance cost, if available. After the restoration process, it is essential to check your home thoroughly to ensure that everything is intact. You can also choose to remodel your house to limit the risk of future floods damaging it extensively. Elevating your home to a desired flood protection elevation is one way to keep it from sustaining severe flood damage when it rains too much. By properly lifting a home, the living is above all, but the most devastating floods. This is a delicate task that requires the skill of a seasoned professional because it can impact the structural integrity of your house.

SERVPRO of Agoura / Calabasas / Hidden Hills is locally owned and operated, and we are available around the clock.  Call us at (818) 991-6292 to restore your flood-damaged house in Agoura Hills, Calabasas, or Hidden Hills quickly.

Preventing Flooding In Your Agoura Crawlspace

2/20/2020 (Permalink)

Let our SERVPRO of Agoura / Calabasas / Hidden Hills help you; however, you need by calling (818) 991-6292.

Preventing Recurring Flooding in Agoura Crawlspaces

Flooding does not always have to enter the household to become a destructive force for Agoura homes. Not only can this rising water threat pose hazards to the structures of your property, but underlying areas like crawlspaces can experience the detrimental effects as well. The immediate concerns of standing water in this open area beneath your main floor are structural deterioration, microbial growth, and migrating moisture.

Despite how readily flood damage in Agoura crawlspaces can reach the main living space of the property, many homeowners do not treat this situation with the urgency they should. Understanding what problems could arise can show you the need for professional restoration and permanent solutions. Though many area homes contend with flood losses throughout the year, specific water diversion and construction approaches can limit the frequency and severity of these disasters for property owners.

While our SERVPRO water restoration team must work on efficient extraction solutions when we first arrive at the house, steps can also begin in this preliminary stage to begin deciding the best permanent solutions to reduce water penetration and reduce flood recurrences. In many situations where numerous flooding events have happened over several years, exposed supports and structural elements could be too damaged to preserve. Our contractors can remove and replace this wood and insulation, which can allow for a more permanent flood prevention solution to follow.

Crawlspace encapsulation is an effective strategy to prevent direct water penetration. It can even limit the threat of groundwater through the installation of diversion equipment like an electric sump pump. By encasing the crawlspace and exposed materials in thick plastic sheeting after treating the materials with antimicrobials and biocides, we can prevent moisture migration and microbial threats for the living space above the damaged area.

Crawlspaces are among the first line of defense when natural flooding situations occur in the area, but these points can also be the start of mold, bacteria, and saturation concerns. Let our SERVPRO of Agoura / Calabasas / Hidden Hills help you; however, you need by calling (818) 991-6292.

The Variable Factors of Storm Flood Damage and Their Effects On Your Agoura Hills Residence

12/26/2019 (Permalink)

SERVPRO remedies floodwater based on the individual characteristics and build of your home.

Storm Flood Damage Agoura Hills

Powerful storms can heap pressure onto the structure of your home. With heavy rainfall, there is a massive water volume that requires transportation via gutters into the drainage system below. In preparation for stormy seasons, residents should be sure that their guttering and drainage are clean with the ability to handle excessive quantities of water flow. In addition to rainfall, it is not uncommon for groundwater levels to rise or nearby road overflow to occur.

These situations can get out of hand, leading to storm flood damage in your Agoura Hills home. Knowing the equipment, you need to remedy a flooded property depending on the individual characteristics and build of your home. In that sense, property restoration is unique, and SERVPRO technicians must think on their feet to set up the right restorative equipment. In the aftermath of a storm, you can always begin the cleaning process by funneling standing water out of the home while waiting for technicians to arrive.

Every property damage proposition SERVPRO faces is a unique challenge. While there are specific steadfast actions, such as removing water or controlling humidity, the equipment we use can vary.

Low-Grain Refrigerant dehumidifiers, for example, are powerful and can reduce relative moisture quickly. However, homes that have wooden flooring may benefit more from a desiccant dehumidifier that uses silica gel to draw moisture out of natural materials like wood.

The construction materials of your home affect restoration. However, the type of damages SERVPRO is facing also means we often have to make adjustments in real-time. Floodwaters can carry solid waste from sewer overflow or debris in the case of flash-flooding. Where solid waste is a concern, we may deploy self-priming trash pumps rather than conventional high-pressure pumps. Trash pumps remove solid waste as large as three inches and can be useful in flat removals, such as in the first-floor levels of your home.

Every damage scenario is different, but we have the equipment and experience to put in place an efficient plan of action. Contact SERVPRO of Agoura / Calabasas / Hidden Hills at (818) 991-6292.

Our Storm Damage Experts Discuss Tips for Performing Flood Cleanup In Your Agoura Home

Tips for Performing Flood Cleanup In Your Agoura Residence

Flooding can happen unexpectedly. In just minutes, flash floods can build up raging waters, while some floods may build up after a few days. Some flash floods occur with no sign of rainfall, and they carry loads of deadly rocks and mud. During the rainy season, urban flooding often occurs in Agoura, especially at roadways and intersections, and the water ends up in homes.

It is advisable to perform flood cleanup in your Agoura residence as soon as possible to avoid high repair costs. When cleaning up your home, it is essential to take safety precautions. You can take the following precautions to ensure safe flood damage cleanup:

    •    Floodwater often contains contaminants, creating a health risk. Therefore, wear personal protective equipment like gloves, eye-protection goggles, and watertight boots before entering the flooded areas.
    •    Be careful as you walk in a flood-damaged house. Loose, damp ceiling plaster is dense and hazardous. Before moving around, knockdown hanging plaster. Look out for walls on the floor and loose boards that may have exposed nails.
    •    Turn off the electricity while standing on dry wood or plastic to avoid electrocution.

Flood damage is often too much for homeowners to fix alone. It is advisable to get help from SERVPRO restoration experts. We have the cleanup and repair skills and the equipment that helps reverse and prevent further damage. Flood cleanup involves removing the floodwater, drying and sanitizing the affected structures and contents.

Any water intrusion incident presents variables like the time water has been in the building, hazardous substances in the water, and mold contamination. Therefore, we take time to identify and resolve safety hazards before proceeding with the restoration project. Our technicians identify all external risks like structural and electrical instability and take measures to ensure safety.

Silt in the floodwater is so fine, and it can penetrate the wall cavities. Even after extracting the water, the silt can remain in the holes. The only way to eliminate it is by removing the finish materials over the cavities. Besides the structural problems, another big concern is decontamination, which involves removing unrestorable materials and sanitizing the salvageable ones. Our SERVPRO team can use disinfectants and germicides that can kill 99 percent of organisms they contact on the surfaces where we apply them.

When floodwater enters a home, removing it and drying the structure fast is critical. SERVPRO of Agoura / Calabasas / Hidden Hills can handle the cleanup process efficiently. Call us any time at (818) 991-6292. We’re Faster to Any Size Disaster.

SERVPRO Says to All Agoura Area Property Owners-Get Flood Insurance and Us If Needed!

Risks of Hidden Flood Water Can Increase the Damage in Agoura Homes

Flooding can be a very traumatic and stressful occurrence in your Agoura home, especially if it strikes with little warning through vulnerabilities made in the exterior of your house like the roof or holes made by falling trees or flying debris. While many homeowners lack the expertise and experience to address these compromised areas that allow flooding into their properties, even more detrimental can be the lingering moisture and dampness unaddressed in wall cavities, ceiling spaces, and underneath flooring materials. Without being directly in the line of sight, inexperienced restorers can convince you that the problem has gotten addressed. In truth, the damage continues in these inaccessible areas and can cause several severe complications.

While getting the structural weaknesses addressed first is a priority for your flood-damaged Agoura property, working to remove moisture and saturation from exposed materials and contents should follow closely behind. Our SERVPRO professionals first assess the full scope of the damage with thermal imagery and moisture detectors to identify the presence of moisture pockets and dampness in areas that are not easily accessed by even our high-velocity air movers and dehumidification units.

With an idea of where the highest concentrations of moisture and dampness are out of sight, we can begin to set up our drying and extraction equipment in these areas to maximize the effectiveness of these machines in restoring your property. If you have coverage, we gladly work to assist with your paperwork and interfacing with our adjustor. To penetrate behind construction materials like drywall, our professionals can utilize our Injecti-Dry System to force heated air through multiple penetration points at the base of this wall. If the Black Water caused substantial damage to the sheetrock, then we can do a "flood cut," and remove the non-salvageable portions of the walls.

Allowing this moisture damage to persist can permit two compromising effects for your property. The first of these conditions is the structural degradation of exposed and saturated construction materials. Secondly, lingering moisture and dampness can also provide the ideal conditions for mold colonization and fungal growth, which can quickly spread out of sight to pose structural and health effects for the household.

Addressing the consequences of a flood should be done by professionals with experience and the right equipment for the job like our SERVPRO of Agoura / Calabasas / Hidden Hills team. We can work quickly and confidently to restore your home after a flood. Give us a call anytime at (818) 991-6292.

SERVPRO Rescues Homes After Flooding in Agoura Hills

Handling Structural Problems after Flood Damage in Agoura Hills

Flooding incidents can cause several problems to a structure especially if the water flow is intense. Water that sits too long in the structure can also cause component degradation even if the impact of flooding was initially low. Restoring such damages requires skills and proper equipment. We offer professional restoration for affected households in Agoura Hills.

Flood damage in Agoura Hills may result in permanent damage to some materials used in insulation such as Rockwool and cellulose. Such damage usually manifests in the form of matting and loss of antimicrobial properties in cellulose or rusting in Rockwool because of metal properties. Fiberglass insulation is more resilient and can regain its insulating qualities when dried properly. Our SERVPRO technicians inspect the level of damage before deciding the steps to take. We perform flood cuts to open up the walls thus allowing easy access to the insulation. In case of severe damage or contamination, we replace the affected materials.

Floodwaters affect porous building materials such as drywall and wood composites whereby they lose structural integrity if they absorb too much water. The porous materials might also absorb the contaminants present in the floodwaters posing health risks to house occupants even after cleaning. Our SERVPRO technicians take steps such as spraying EPA-registered disinfectants directly into areas affected by floodwaters. We also do a thorough evaluation to find out the extent of damage and decide whether to replace them.

After flooding incidents, water is easily trapped in concealed spaces such as wall cavities or being cabinets. This water can create long-term problems for the structure including widespread mold growth. The processes of identifying areas with trapped water and removing it can be tedious or destructive. Our SERVPRO technicians use advanced equipment to address this challenge. With FLIR thermal cameras, we can quickly identify concealed wet areas. We then apply different skills learned in Applied Structural Drying including creating vent holes to remove the trapped water.

Flood Damage Restoration Services To Dry The Exterior Walls Of Your Calabasas Property

Most people assume that it is only the interior parts of the structure that require drying after a flood damage incident. Exterior walls can absorb water during a flood and may require specialty drying. When drying a building made of cinder block, we look at the state of the open cells in the walls since they can hold water. We also examine the walls of your Calabasas property and check whether they are painted. Semi-gloss or gloss paints can act as moisture barriers and reduce at which the moisture moves from the block wall's inside to the outside.

To drain water from the block walls during flood damage restoration in Calabasas, our SERVPRO team drills holes near the bottom of the wall. We prefer to make the holes around the motor joint area since it is easy to seal the holes at the end of the process. Making bigger holes is necessary to allow sufficient air circulation when the building is submerged for a long time.

Sometimes our SERVPRO team comes across block walls with fiberglass, foam, vermiculite, and cellulosic insulation. Drying the walls when the insulation is still in place requires much dry air, and the process is slow, so, we remove the insulation. Slower drying may also affect the insulation qualities of some materials. The drying time can also slow when the walls have bond beams. To determine whether there are bond beams in the walls, we tap on the surfaces. If it feels like tapping on concrete, then there is a bond beam in such a wall, but a hollow sound indicates they are absent.

We consider the area to be dry once it has regained its natural content of moisture. To determine its natural moisture content, we take the readings of a control area and compare them to those of the remediated area. Our SERVPRO technicians use a moisture meter when taking the measurements.

Flood Damage Experts In Agoura Talk About Repairing The Source

Flood Damage Experts Talk About Repairing The Source

Several conditions related to that storm striking Agoura can cause your property damage. Severe thunderstorms can bring about excessive rains in short periods. In some cases, the rain comes down so hard that it floods out the neighborhood. Once water starts getting deep outside, there is a chance it will get inside your home. High-speed winds can also cause problems to a building's structure. Winds can blow objects like rocks or tree branches into windows or exterior walls. Hurricane-like gusts can also cause roof leaks that create a hole for rainwater to enter the building.

Once the interior of your house gets wet, it is essential to begin work on removing moisture from the structure. However, when mitigating flood damage in Agoura, the source of the leak must be repaired first. When mitigating issues with water, our SERVPRO technicians utilize extraction and structural drying techniques. But, these techniques will only be successful if no more water is getting into the home.

The first thing our SERVPRO restoration team does when entering your residence is inspect your property to find the extent of the damage and to locate the source of the moisture. Sometimes the place where water is coming into your home is easy to find, other times finding the source can be more difficult. We start by testing the moisture content of building materials with specialized sensors and following the water to where it entered the structure.

Once the place where water entered your home gets found we determine the best way to fix the problem. In some situations, our SERVPRO technicians can easily permanently repair the leak. In other cases, the leak may have to be fixed temporarily before it can be correctly repaired. For example, if the water is entering a home due to a broken window, then the window gets boarded up and sealed so that water can not enter from the hole during the drying and extraction process. Then, at a later date, we come out and replace the broken window.

If the source does not get effectively repaired before we begin removing moisture from your house, then water can continue to create problems and render the rapid drying efforts useless. If you ever notice water leaking into your home after a storm, call SERVPRO of Agoura / Calabasas / Hidden Hills at (818) 991-6292 24 hours a day.

Flooding in Calabasas Typically Requires Professional Help

Smart Calabasas Homeowners Call SERVPRO for Stormwater Removal and CLeanup

Rely on SERVPRO for the Extraction of Stormwater on Your Calabasas Property to Mitigate Losses

Flooding causes a substantial amount of damage every year in the United States, and Calabasas often receives its fair share of the messy, watery disasters experienced year-round. Even with our level of technology, small communities may not always receive advanced warning of such flooding events in time to prevent disastrous damages from taking place.

SERVPRO can help residents in Calabasas recover quickly after flood damage threatens their homes. We use methods that quickly sanitize as well as dry out the home's interior and furnishings. We specially treat delicate items, make sure that we always discuss unique concerns with our customers, and consider our work finished only when the customer feels satisfied.

Ultrasonic equipment helps clean delicate items and leaves them free of any debris such as organic matter. Other areas of your home require special care, also. Some areas, however, cannot readily come clean, such as carpeting. We completely remove this, and the padding, as well, so new installation on newly cleaned and dried flooring can happen as soon as we finish the rest of our work.

Drying your home out happens quicker with the aid of large and powerful air movers and highly effective LGR dehumidifiers. We also treat higher levels of your home, so elevated humidity remains under control. Because water evaporates so easily and raises the moisture content in the air, already established air currents in your home can carry this moisture to otherwise dry areas and subsequently damage the interior and any vulnerable possessions found in these locations.

Before we begin our work, our technicians take readings using infrared technology. These thermographers detect the presence of water below the visible surface. Surfaces that only seem dry can retain moisture inside and on their non-visible surfaces. Inside walls, the dead space can harbor water that permits microbial growth and deterioration of the wall's components.

The professional team of restoration experts at SERVPRO of Agoura / Calabasas / Hidden Hills serves the local area including Oak Park and Westlake. We are here to help you make flood damage an event of the past, so your family can move forward with their lives. Call us at (818) 991-6292 for assistance with this or any other disaster that damages your home, its furnishings, or your personal belongings.
